On this date in 1958, Prince Rogers Nelson was born to John Nelson and Mattie Shaw in Minneapolis, Minnesota. But musically he was to become the son of an extended family, which would include James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, Sly Stone, Miles Davis, The Beatles, Maurice White and George Clinton.
